Rockets Land at Fremont Main Library

Fremont is one of the most diverse and tech-driven cities in the Bay Area, so it felt like the perfect place for our newest rocket display. This fall, Galactic Getaway, the nonprofit founded by Saanvi Phaneendra, set up its next-gen rocket model exhibit inside the Fremont Main Library, right where families, students, and kids walk by every day.

Setting up took a careful afternoon. Every model had to be lined up, labeled, and placed in order so visitors could compare them side by side. Above the rockets, we hung a large poster called The Rockets Shaping the Next Era of Space Exploration, which breaks down each vehicle's engines, fuel type, payload, and missions.

Spreading the Word

To help people find the exhibit, we also made a flyer for the library's bulletin board. It invites visitors to see the next generation of rockets up close, from Starship and SLS to New Glenn, all designed to reach space, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. The display is part of an Eagle Scout project focused on bringing space science to life, and it will be in the large display case for the whole month of October 2026.

What's on Display

This exhibit features eleven museum-quality 1:144 scale models from the United States, Russia, China, and Europe:

Curiosity, Up Close

The best part of any display is watching people discover it. Within minutes of opening, families started stopping by. Parents crouched down next to their kids, pointed at the tallest rockets, and read the labels out loud together.

Kids especially had a lot of questions. Why is Starship so much bigger than the others? Why are some rockets white and some orange? Which one goes to the Moon? Those are exactly the questions we hope the exhibit sparks, because every question is the start of learning something new.

Some visitors stayed for a quick look, while others stood in front of the case for a long time, reading the poster and comparing rockets from different countries. Seeing a kid look up at a model of Long March 9 or Ariane 6 and realize that space is a global effort is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.

Why Libraries?

Libraries are free, open to everyone, and already full of curious people. By placing real-looking rockets in a public space, we make space exploration feel less like something far away and more like something any kid can be part of. Fremont joins a growing list of Bay Area libraries that have hosted Galactic Getaway, and we are so excited to keep going.

Bring the Display to Your Community

We're now scheduling 2 to 4 week rotations of our display at local libraries, schools, museums, and community centers, at no cost. Want to bring Galactic Getaway to your town?
